Summer 2012

The 2012 season is finally underway after two matches cancelled due to rain.

The newly refurbished clubhouse is almost ready to be re-opened and with a full summer of fixtures this promises to be a wonderful year for the Milburys Cricket Club. We have new fixtures against IBM South Hants, Easton, St Giles & Cheriton to look forward to alongside usual suspects like The Hampshire Bowman, Coopers XI & Droxford and we also welcome back our old friends The Brushmakers Arms for a game in June.

If you haven't seen it yet then you will be blown away by how much work has taken place up at The Holt over the winter and we owe a real debt of gratitude to everybody who has helped out but particularly to 'Magic' Mike Parker and Geoff Stevens. Groundsmen Adie, Colin and Dick have been putting in the hours up at the pitch, watering and tending the wickets and the square is starting to look lovely as well.

Whoever you are, please feel welcome to come up to The Holt to play, score, umpire or simply to watch a friendly game of cricket. I hope to see you there.

about us

The Milburys Cricket Club (formally known as the Brigadier Gerard Cricket Club) was born in 2005 out of a passion for cricket, great English summers and mates enjoying a pre, during and post match beer. We are a pub side made up of enthusiastic cricketers from around Winchester and Southampton who play friendly matches throughout the summer.

For us, the emphasis is very much on enjoying the game, not taking things too seriously and enjoying a pint in the pub afterwards. Our aim of course is to play a good standard of cricket against our like minded opponents, but most of all it’s about having a laugh and convincing ourselves that we are keeping fit!

Normally we play on Sundays but we also play the occasional mid-week game and are always on the look out for new players and new teams to play against. If you fancy a game then please get in touch

The club is entirely self financed, raising money through annual subscriptions, fund-raising events, fines and our monthly 26 Club draw. If you don't already have a card in the draw then please consider signing up. It only costs £5 per month to enter and there are cash prizes to be won!

the pub

We enjoy tremendous support from The Milburys which is a fine old English pub, serving a wide range of local ales and some excellent food. It also boasts a skittles alley, a 300ft well, a roaring fire and a landlord who appreciates his cricket team, no matter how often they lose! There's nowhere better to be on a hot summers day after a game of cricket.

the holt

Our home ground is called The Holt and it is a beautiful pitch set in the countryside near Winchester which we share with our sister club The Flamingos. We have been associated with the Flamingos since 2010 and are very lucky to have found such a wonderful place to play our cricket.

The Holt sits on the top of a wooded hill right on the edge of the Meon Valley and won Hampshire Cricket League's “Ground of the Year” award in 1998.
